Tulum, MexicoNARA
NARA by Multiplicities* is imagined as a village that listens to the jungle before it speaks.
Elevated on wooden stilts and built entirely from timber, the architecture touches the ground lightly, allowing water, flora, and fauna to move freely and undisturbed.
Conceived as a sustainable residential and commercial ecosystem, NARA dissolves the boundary between living and landscape. Its amenities unfold as moments rather than objects: a restaurant hovering over a cenote, an intimate cinema for fifteen, a wellness sanctuary for yoga and meditation, spaces for children, pets, and play, and a skate park carefully woven between trees—without cutting a single one or redirecting a drop of water.
At the center, a 100-meter biopool stretches through the jungle, anchoring a community shaped by coexistence, restraint, and the quiet richness of nature.
Nara Tulum is an innovative ecological community project designed by Multiplicities Architecture, nestled within the lush jungle landscape of Tulum. This visionary development is centered around the concept of the “edible jungle,” promoting sustainable living through regenerative practices, biodiversity, and community engagement.
At the heart of Nara Tulum lies the idea of an edible landscape, where the built environment seamlessly integrates with nature. The project emphasizes the cultivation of native flora and edible plants, creating a harmonious ecosystem that provides both nourishment and aesthetic beauty.
A key aspect of the project is its commitment to soil regeneration. through permaculture practices and organic gardening techniques, Nara Tulum focuses on restoring the natural fertility of the land. The design incorporates composting systems and agroecological strategies to enhance soil health, ensuring that the community thrives in a sustainable and self-sufficient manner. This regenerative approach not only improves the land’s productivity but also supports local biodiversity, fostering a resilient ecosystem.
Sustainability is further prioritized through the use of certified wood as a primary building material. All structures within Nara Tulum are crafted from responsibly sourced timber, ensuring minimal environmental impact while providing durable and beautiful spaces for residents.
Nara Tulum is designed as a communal living experience, encouraging collaboration and interaction among residents. Shared gardens, communal spaces, and educational workshops on sustainable practices foster a sense of community and promote knowledge-sharing.
This environment not only enhances the quality of life for residents but also cultivates a deeper connection to the land and each other.
